Thank-you, Lord, for my parents.
Yesterday was my parents forty-first anniversary. WOW. You know the game they play at wedding receptions where all of the married couples get on the dance floor and the DJ slowly eliminates couples based years married starting with the newly weds. Well mom and dad are close to winning that game. I know I was excited when Heather and I got to stay on the floor when the DJ announced ten years.
My parents are an inspiration to me in my marriage. It seems like it is getting harder and harder to find people who stay together for more than a few years. I have a great example of how a marriage is supposed to be very close to me.
As parents, they are great. They gave us we needed, taught us right from wrong, to work hard, to take responsibility for our actions, to be friendly, and to love others. Even though we were not an openly affectionate family, we all knew there was plenty of love in the home.
It is fun to see how their marriage evolves now that they have reached that life stage where all of the kids are gone. New hobbies have emerged like drinking wine, smoking meat, bike riding, collecting yard gnomes or pigs, and most importantly, being grandparents.
They are awesome grandparents. They do so much with the boys. In fact, grandma is taking Ben to the zoo tomorrow. He will be so surprised when she shows up at the door in the morning. Sometimes I worry that we take advantage of there generosity in terms of watching the boys, but I am very thankful they are around to have fun with the boys.
Thank-you, Lord, for my parents.
